About Us: Robinson Family Medicine

Dr. Michael Robinson, Board certified in Family Medicine

Dr. Michael Robinson is a well-known physician whose work has received widespread acclaim. After completing his High School education at Sayre, OK, Dr. Robinson graduated magna cum laude from Southwestern Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. After a brief stint in psychology, he decided to pursue his Doctorate in Medicine at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. When asked why he decided to pursue medicine instead of working in psychology, Dr. Robinson stated, “I loved the science of medicine and I always knew I wanted to help people.” While in medical school and in addition to those demands, Dr. Robinson pursued extra  research opportunities and was ultimately published in the Journal of Ophthalmology and Visual Science for his research in improving antibiotic therapy in endophthalmitis, an often sight threatening eye infection. Upon graduation, Dr. Robinson achieved the distinction of graduation in the top quartile of graduating physicians.

After a brief stint in psychology, he decided to pursue his Doctorate in Medicine at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. When asked why he decided to pursue medicine instead of working in psychology, Dr. Robinson stated, “I loved the science of medicine and I always knew I wanted to help people.”

While in medical school and in addition to those demands, Dr.

After graduation from medical school, Dr. Robinson began his residency training in Family Medicine at the Great Plains Residency Program at Integris Baptist hospital in Oklahoma City. While there Dr. Robinson quickly developed a reputation for working long hours and staying late to help his co-residents caring for their patients. Dr. Robinson took special interest in obstetrics and procedures. During residency Dr. Robinson worked as part of the on-call obstetrics team, central line team and code blue team. In addition to these duties, Dr. Robinson also worked numerous weekends in the emergency department in Sayre, OK, providing emergency medical care to families in the area.

After graduating with honors from residency, Dr. Robinson elected to return home to Western Oklahoma to begin his Family Medicine practice. In 2011 he opened his clinic in Sayre, OK and practiced there alongside long time mentor, Dr. Kenneth Whinery, until 2014. During that time, he provided care to patients in his clinic and his patients in the hospital both in Sayre and Elk City, OK.

In 2014, Dr. Robinson made the difficult decision to move his practice to Elk City, OK due to the imminent closure of the hospital in Sayre. When asked about the move Dr. Robinson said, “I initially was against the idea. Sayre has always been home to me and I didn’t want to leave my patients. But with the hospital closing, I knew I needed to be in Elk City to be able to provide the best care possible.” Since moving to Elk City, Dr. Robinson’s practice has continued to grow and he now employees and supervises a number of healthcare providers in the area.

In addition to his busy medical practice at Robinson Medical Clinic, Dr. Robinson has also served as a mentor and educator to the next generation of healthcare providers. “We’ve had the opportunity to have a number of students and resident physicians rotate through our clinics during their training and we’ve even been able to recruit a few of them to return to the area to practice over the years” said Dr. Robinson.

Recently Dr. Robinson began providing education to working physicians in the region as an expert speaker for Novo Nordisk. These speaking engagements provide education regarding the most up to date “best practice” guidelines for treatment of Type 2 Diabetes. When asked about this endeavor Dr. Robinson said, “Diabetes is a disease that affects every family, including my own. Too often I see patients that are not being treated appropriately, with the best treatments available to them. I want to change that.”

Dr. Robinson is highly dedicated to his patients and their families and takes great pride in providing quality care for them. When asked about the challenges of being a hometown physician in a rural community, Dr. Robinson had this to say, “I really couldn’t see myself working in any other community. These are my people. These are my family members, my friends and their loved ones. I tell my patients that I’m going to give them the same advice and care that I would my Mom or Dad.”

Outside the Medical Field

When he is not at the clinic, you may find Dr. Robinson in the sky. He is not only an experienced doctor but also an accomplished pilot. In 2016 both he and his wife, Lindsay, completed training together and received their pilots license on the same day. Since that time Dr. Robinson has received numerous ratings including his instrument, high altitude, and turbine ratings.

Since moving to Elk City, Dr. Robinson has also began operating a small cow-calf operation and owns several horses. “I wanted my kids to grow up learning the history of Western Oklahoma and how so many families here, including my own, survived working hard in the farming and ranching business.”

Dr. Robinson is the proud father of three boys. The younger two boys, Conner and Clarke, are both students at Merritt and love all kinds of sports and helping Dad with chores on the farm. The oldest, Michael, has decided to follow in his Dad’s footsteps and is currently a medical student at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine.

About Dr. Jessica Kennemer

Jessica Kennemer is a nurse practitioner who is well-known in our area. After graduating high school in Merritt, OK, in 1987, she attended Redlands Community College, earning her Applied Associate of Science in Nursing degree in 1993. Following RCC, Dr. Kennemer Jessica attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1998. After working as an RN for 16 years, Jessica decided it was time for a new adventure and returned to school at the University of Oklahoma to get her Master of Science to become the Nurse Practitioner she is today.

Staying close to home, Jessica started her career as a “Patient Care Coordinator” at Sayre Memorial Hospital for four years before moving on to being the “Director of Nursing” at Hensley’s Nursing Home in Sayre. It would then be another three years before Great Plains Regional Medical Center would take her on as the “Labor and Delivery Charge Nurse.” Then, two years later, they would change her to a “Patient Care Coordinator.” In the following years, she would work as the “Director of Nursing” at Bell Avenue Nursing Center in Elk City, Public Health Nurse at the Oklahoma State Department of Health, and as the charge nurse at Sayre Memorial Hospital. She then returned to university for her Master’s. After graduating, Sayre Memorial Hospital hired Mrs. Kennemer as the “Family Practice Clinic ER Nurse Practitioner.” It would then be another three years before Graham Family Medicine would take her on as their new Nurse Practitioner. She continued the title at a new clinic she started at Alliance Health in Clinton, first at their Urgent Care, then in her Family Practice Clinic. During Alliance Health’s closure, Dr. Robinson swept Jessica and her excellent staff up and gave her a clinic here at Michael Robinson Family Medical Clinic in October 2022.

Staying loyal to her hometown area, Jessica strives to provide the best care she can to Elk City and all the surrounding areas. Making friends with all her patients, giving them her full attention, and going to excellent lengths to help anyone she can. Having Jessica has made MRFMC an even better group of clinics!
